Development projects are often less effective because they are unable to properly measure the impact of conflict related projects and little is known about the most effective factors to target
This means that projects are not as effective as they could be and impact evaluation for these projects needs to be dramatically improved
By working with local partners E2E intends to demonstrate the importance of trust and community well-being as a building block for development and provide indicators for future impact measurement
Why is this project important?
Currently, data is often unavailable for projects that work in areas affected by conflict, making it difficult for organizations working in the areas to completely understand the factors that affect the creation of peace or understand the impact of projects already carried out. This is due to the high-risk nature of many of the areas where surveys need to be carried out. Fortunately, with E2E’s contacts in different parts of Medellín and intimate knowledge of the local context we are in a unique position to improve the knowledge base about how to measure and understand the peace-building process.
The final result of this study will be a dynamic and adaptable tool for use in various social contexts, which will help us to measure, map and monitor initiatives and interventions that promote peace, harmonious coexistence and human security starting in Medellín, Colombia.
Our surveys will use a form of public opinion polling which asks questions closely related to personally sensitive issues, while not directly stating them. This process gives more reliable results, as it assures people remain comfortable and more open to disclosing personal details and helps to avoid addressing issues directly that can be sensitive for local leaders.
With the analyzed information E2E will create a database of categorized indicators on peace-building and reconciliation, which will be made available to the communities and other organizations that work to create safer and more peaceful communities in Medellín.
Additionally, E2E will provide clear and measurable project recommendations to groups interested in conducting peace and community building projects in Medellín, increasing efficiency and project impact.
Where will we be working?
E2E will be conducting surveys in the Comunas 1, 3 and 5 of Medellin to create a database of specific indicators for peacebuilding and reconciliation. This will be done by conducting surveys and working with focus groups and will take into account factors such as age, gender and armed status actors that are representative and affected by local violence.
